Vandenberg is a selection of lots at Kick-on Rach. Kick On Ranch vineyards are located on the westernmost tip of Sta. Rita Hills AVA, just west of Los Alamos (Los Alamos village), and have Betteravia sandy loam soils. In a part of this field, the section where even the leaves are blown away by the cold wind blowing from the Pacific Ocean is used for Vandenberg. Small amounts of noble rot grapes are also blended in to give the wine complexity. This wine has characteristic Riesling stone fruit notes. The name of the wine comes from the US Air Force's "Vandenberg Air Force Base" near the vineyard.
2017 was a warm vintage. It was a very challenging vintage to age the grapes while maintaining acidity, but the result was a very complex and wonderful wine. Spicy and fruity, reminiscent of the German Grosses Gewechs.
