Fermented and aged in French barrels from dry-farmed (non-irrigated) old vineyards in St. Helena. The refreshing aroma of squeezed citrus peel, followed by the aroma of clementine orange, lychee and white peach. Lively acidity, tension and a thick mouthfeel. The long aftertaste is scented with tropical fruits and lemon peel, and the nuances of the barrel leave a pleasant impression.
Vintage Information
In 2020, there was plenty of rain in the winter, which was warm, and spring arrived and the flowers bloomed somewhat early, in early March.
The warm, dry summer accelerated growth, and careful cultivation management resulted in an excellent finish with sufficient ripeness and high acidity.
Harvested rather early on August 14th.
Technical information
The wine is pressed with the whole stems still attached (gently and slowly), then rested in stainless steel tanks. 25% is then fermented and aged in new French barrels, and the rest in French barrels that have been used for several years.
The barrel size is a combination of the usual 225 liter barrique and the wide cigar barrel (Atelier Merca style).
Tasting Comments
The refreshing aroma of squeezed citrus peel, clementine orange, lychee, and white peach blend together with a mineral aroma like the aroma of flint from crushing rocks.
Lively acidity, tension and a thick mouthfeel.
The long aftertaste has aromas of tropical fruits and lemon peel, with a strong hint of oak that leaves a pleasant impression.
It can be expected to age for a long time, so we recommend serving it at a slightly higher temperature.
Field Information
▼Main fields used by La Pelle (Only fields managed by Silverado Farming Company are used.)
Lambert Vineyards/Coombsville AVA
Located in the southeast of Napa Valley, at the foot of the Vaca Mountains, the 2.4-hectare vineyard has shallow, rocky topsoil and benefits from the morning mists and cool afternoon breezes that blow in from San Pablo Bay, allowing the sugar and phenol content to ripen slowly.
Two vineyards in the St. Helena AVA (not open to the public)
The famous vineyards are located on the southeast and southwest corners of the city, and the alluvial soil containing stones from the Napa River and the large temperature changes between morning and evening create ideal growing conditions for Bordeaux grape varieties. The thick skins produce excellent tannins.
Red Hen Vineyards/Oak Knoll AVA
Located just north of Napa, at the foot of Mount Veeder, the alluvial soil, rich in rocks and gravel, keeps the vines in check, while the proximity to the bay and the cool breezes produce elegant, delicate fruit flavors.
