The colour is ruby red. The aroma of ripe cherries and raspberries is accompanied by a complex aroma of earth and wet leaves. The taste is strawberry and raspberry with red fruits, spices and vanilla, and a long finish with silky tannins. Folium Vineyard was founded in June 2010 in Brancott Valley, Marlborough, in the northeast of New Zealand's South Island. Folium Vineyard aims to produce the highest quality wines by growing Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir with great care. The soil of the vineyard is a mixture of clay brought by the movement of glaciers during the ice age and gravel carried by the flooding of the Wairau River. The high clay content allows the grapes to retain the moisture they need to grow even in dry summers. By planting more vines than other vineyards in Marlborough, the vineyard produces more concentrated and powerful fruit. In order to maintain New Zealand's clean environment, the farming method is in accordance with the regulations of the organic farming certification organization "Biogro" (certified in 2014). "The fastest way to make high-quality wine is to grow high-quality grapes," says Mr. Okada, the grower and winemaker. In the fields, they strictly limit yields, perform canopy management including leaf removal, and in autumn, they harvest all the fully ripe fruit by hand. In order to make the most of the characteristics of the harvested grapes, they keep human involvement in the winemaking process to a minimum and produce wine that reflects the terroir of Folium Vineyard.
