Founded in 1938 by Jean Richard, father of Henri Richard, this is one of the oldest domaines in the village of Gevrey-Chambertin.

At that time, most wine growers sold their grapes to traders, but they were also among the first to start bottling their own wine.

The owned area is only 4.5 hectares.

This small domaine underwent a remarkable transformation when Patrick Maroyer became head winemaker in 1992.

Mr. Maloyer has served as head winemaker at several prestigious domaines in the Côte de Nuits, including Pierre Damois, and is a master winemaker respected by winemakers in Gevrey-Chambertin.

Based on the philosophy that "good grapes make good wine," the winery was one of the first to adopt organic farming in Gevrey-Chambertin in 2000, and began biodynamic farming in its Haut-Corvay vineyards in 2001.

The winery received Ecocert certification in 2005 and transitioned completely to biodynamic farming in 2013, becoming one of the few producers in the village of Gevrey-Chambertin to be officially certified.

It has now also been featured in the wine magazine Guide Fleurus.

Since 2008, Henri's granddaughter, Sarah Bastien, has become the fourth generation owner, and the head winemaker is Guillaume Berthier, who took over from Maroyer.

He is Sarah's husband.

The appellations produced are Marsannay, Gevrey-Chambertin, Charmes-Chambertin and Mazoyères-Chambertin.

They are one of the few producers that produce both Charmes Chambertin and Mazoyères Chambertin.

While most producers label Mazoyères-Chambertin as Charmes-Chambertin, the current head winemaker, Guillaume, has distinguished the individual characteristics of each and makes wine under a separate appellation.

In contrast to the elegant and precise Charmes Chambertin, Mazoyeres Chambertin has a solid structure, body and masculine complexity.

Even as generations change, this domaine continues to emphasize quality over quantity and is committed to refining its wines by bringing out the unique characteristics of the terroir to the fullest.
