A historic vineyard that Morgan was eager to acquire. Bedrock has conquered the four major Sonoma Valley Zinfandel vineyards (Monte Rosso, Bedrock, Old Hill, Pagani Ranch). The soil contains reddish volcanic soil. The soil is mainly composed of gravel, sand and clay. This is the flagship Zinfandel vineyard of Ravenswood, founded by my father Joel, and it gives me the impression of making wine in two generations of father and son. It has an airy, supple feel and a distinctive spicy flavor.
Bedrock finally conquers the four major Sonoma Valley Zinfandel vineyards, a historic vineyard that has been eagerly awaited ~ The story of the collaboration between Monte Rosso, Bedrock, Old Hill, and Pagani Ranch (according to Morgan)
"For Sonoma Boy, it's a nostalgic scent that reminds him of home."
This vineyard has been supplied with grapes since 2018, and this is its third vintage.
I remember when I was a child (1980s), my father took me running around the fields and having picnics. (My father, Joel, is the founder of Ravenswood. This field is where Ravenswood's flagship Zinfandel is grown.)
This vineyard gives us the joy and excitement of two generations of winemaking.
In 2020, their son Joel Jr. was born, so the wine is so valuable, rare and memorable that they decided to keep it for private use.

Varieties
There is also Zinfandel, Grenache (only a little at Bedrock and none at Pagani Ranch or Monterosso), Alicante Bouchet, Mourvèdre, Petite Sirah, Carignan, Syrah, Tannat, Trousseau, Grand Noir, Lenoir, French Colombard, and the Savoie varieties Moïde, Etrel de la Dhuy, and Persin.
There are over 30 varieties in total, some of which cannot be identified even through DNA testing, and they are grown as clumps.
Tasting Comments
The year 2020 is one of strength and elegance.
It has a juicy appeal, yet is airy and supple, and is overflowing with nuances of purple violets, blueberries, and plums.
The peppery spiciness is especially prominent.
Field Information
Located in Sonoma Valley, approximately 1.4 km north of Bedrock's own vineyards.
The soils are made up of sedimentary material created by an ancient river that flowed west from Mount Mayacamas, and both fields have volcanic sedimentary soils that contain reddish soils.
Bedrock contains more fist-sized pebbles and boulders, while Old Hill contains less stone and is primarily made up of volcanic gravel, sand, and clay.
Mist from San Pablo Bay rolls in during the evenings and mornings, allowing for ample sunshine during the day.
Dry farming without irrigation.
This vineyard, which was cultivated in the 1880s, is a valuable historic site where healthy grapes are still grown under excellent cultivation management.
Along with our own Bedrock Vineyard, this is a legendary vineyard that deserves to be passed down for generations.
