The rich, ripe aroma is complemented by the elegant and fresh red fruit nuances that are unique to Nerello Mascalese. The smooth mouthfeel spreads the aromas of red fruits, iodine, and black pepper in the mouth, fading out with a moderate mineral aftertaste.
Baglio Curato Arini is the oldest family-run Marsala winery in Sicily, founded in 1875. Currently, the winery is run by Roberto, the third generation, and his son Sergio. Although they are a Marsala winery, they also focus on producing wines using indigenous varieties, and have hired the genius winemaker Alberto Antonini as a consultant, with the goal of "making wines with modern flavors from indigenous varieties at a reasonable price that can be used worldwide." Alberto Antonini has worked for many wineries, including Antinori and Frescobaldi, and Robert Mondavi, also known as the "father of California wine," and currently travels around the world as a winemaking consultant.
Wine Advocate #154 also said, "Although they are a producer of Marsala, they also make an effort to produce Nero d'Avola, and are a producer worth remembering the name. The winemaker of our winery is Alberto Antonini from Tuscany, and you can feel his outstanding talent in the wine. The vineyards are roughly divided into five areas, centered around Marsala. The Inzolia, Cataratto, and Grillo vineyards are harvested in the DOC Marsala area, and Zibibbo is harvested in Camporeale, on the west side of Sicily. The Nero d'Avola vineyards are located in Caltanissetta and Cusatino in central Sicily. Baglio Clatro Alini produces wines in three price ranges to suit the needs of customers: the high-end line "Clatro Alini", the standard line "Paccamora", and the casual line "Borgo Selene".
