Arnaud Roberts Wines is a collaboration between two childhood friends, Duncan Arnaud Meyers and Nathan Lee Roberts. Since the winery was founded in 2002, it has been one of the most creative and innovative producers in the California wine industry. It is also a pioneer of the "New California" style in California wine, which has entered an era of diversity. Nathan's grandmother was Margrit Mondavi, the beloved wife of Robert Mondavi. Arnaud Roberts' labels were designed by Margrit Mondavi. From Lake County in the north to Santa Barbara in the south, Arnaud Roberts' winemaking begins with searching for unique and distinctive (and sometimes geographically extreme) vineyards. In fact, many of the vineyards cultivated by Arnaud Roberts were unknown and not particularly noteworthy in the past. Examples include Clary Ranch Syrah, Ferrom Ranch Cabernet, Laxinger Trousseau, and Trout Gulch Chardonnay. Behind the creation of these great wines from these little-known vineyards lies Duncan and Nathan's sharp intuition and their talent for maximizing the potential and possibilities of each vineyard. Harvesting is done with great care, and the grapes are picked on the ideal day when the sugar, acidity, and flavor of the grapes are all concentrated. The plots cultivated by Arnaud Roberts are in very cool regions, and the basic grapes have low sugar (i.e. alcohol) and high acidity, so the wines made from these grapes are flavor-concentrated and complex. As a result, the wines have the unique personality of the vineyard, as well as transparency and tension, resulting in a focused and clear finish. Arnaud Roberts uses old world, new world, "old school" and the latest techniques in winemaking. Each vineyard and plot is cultivated in its own way, and the common features of the red and white wines are that they are fermented with indigenous yeasts and brewed with minimal or no new barrels. The Chardonnay is fermented in stainless steel tanks like Vincent Dauvissat and François Laveneau, and aged in old barrels. The Syrah is brewed with 100% whole bunches of grapes, with the caps submerged, following the example of Genters Delvieux and Marcel Jouges. The Cabernet Sauvignon is brewed in a very unique way, with some whole bunches included to control the fruitiness, and aged in barrels made by Nathan himself. Looking at the history of California wine, there was a time when they tried to beat the old world wines by force, and there was also a time when they tried to make imitations of the great producers of the old world. Duncan and Nathan are producers who create "California-like wines" while referring to the history and methods of old world wines. In an age of diversity in California wine styles, this producer is a representative of the "New California" style, which is trying to revolutionize the style with the slogan "Make authentic, elegant wines that reflect the unique climate of the land." It can be said that the day has finally come when California wines can join the same ranks as wines from famous wine-producing regions such as France and Italy.
