Quest is a new wine aimed at expressing the promise and ambition of the increasingly acclaimed Paso Robles. A mountainous region dotted with oaks and influenced by the sea, the wines produced here are luscious, soft and deep. The Paso, which has low rainfall and rocky soils, thrives on Cabernet, and aging in American oak enhances the wine's unique softness. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc to create a unique wine. Refreshing menthol, a refreshing scent of cedar, and a faint coconut scent. This fragrance spreads in the mouth and changes with sharp wintergreen mint, dark chocolate, rich vanilla and spice accents. Quest is a new wine that aims to express the increasingly recognized potential and excitement of Paso Robles. It is a Cabernet and Cabernet Franc blend that showcases the luscious softness and depth produced in our mountainous, oak-studded, maritime-influenced home. Cabernet thrives in Paso's semi-arid, rocky soils, and this wine is fruit-forward, with a toasty vanilla finish and grippy tannins. Quest has been aged in American oak barrels, yet displays an inherent softness. Hidden pockets of exceptional vineyards account for its unique character.
The most recent release of Quest is a 50/50 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc that displays a beautiful creamy vanilla nose with hints of sweet mint and coco. These aromas continue through the palette and evolve into rich flavors of black berry, dark chocolate , fresh tobacco and slight herbaceous accent. As the flavor evolves bright acid coats the palette and soft supple tannins create rich integrated finish.
Vineyard Notes: The 2018 growing season gave us near-normal rainfall and mild conditions through spring with only a few weeks of exception. July brought a short period of very warm weather that slowed vine growth and berry sizing. Fortunately, moderate weather for the remainder of the growing season enabled vines to thrive. Leading up to harvest, the vines slow berry maturity was ideal for “hang time” resulting in predicted yields, high fruit quality with amazing color and structure.
Winemaker Notes: The Cabernet & Cabernet Franc are harvested and fermented individually by vineyard lots and then aged in American oak barrels. The lots were racked twice during barrel aging, blended together and put into 65% New American oak barrels for an additional 3 months. Just prior to bottling the wine is filtered. The 2018 Quest Red Wine was aged for a total of 20 months in oak, blended in spring of 2020 and bottled in July of 2020.
