Vines 15-20 years old. Neive village, 400m above sea level. Chalk-limestone soil. 5000 bottles/ha. Soft pressing. Alcoholic fermentation at controlled temperature for 10 days. Aged in stainless steel tanks. The Pellisello family has deep roots in Neive, named after a small village in Barbaresco called "Pelliselli". They were also one of the first producers in Neive to bottle and sell their own wines. The history of this small family-run winery began in 1921, when Giuvani, the second generation owner, purchased the historic estate "Cassina Crosa". Before his purchase, it was so old that it belonged to the Conti family, an aristocratic family of Neive, and was treated like a treasure. It is still located in the heart of the best vineyards in Neive, and is a place that other producers in the region often visit. Later, Giuvani's son Pasquale became the head of the winery, and the winery was further innovated. Pasquale loved working in the vineyards and cellars so much that he decided to focus on improving quality instead of mass-produced wines, which were very common at the time. Since then, the winery's work has been a constant quest for quality improvement. In 1971, they released their own bottled Barbaresco, at a time when bulk sales were still common. After Pasquale passed away in 2007, his daughter Ornellaia became the head of the family and continues to make wine, upholding the great family tradition. Ornellaia felt her father's careful work up close from an early age and has inherited the work of the winery. Therefore, she is still most particular about quality. Believing that great wine can only be made from good vineyards, she takes great care of each and every grape tree and spends a huge amount of time making sure that the vineyards are well-managed. They make wine only from their own carefully cultivated grapes. Their goal is "to make our customers satisfied when they drink our wine." It may sound obvious, but he says this is the reason he has always worked. Since 2020, Simone, the son of Ms. Ornellaia, who will be the future owner, has also been involved in winemaking at the Domaine in earnest. Until last year, Simone studied winemaking traditions and the latest oenology at La Scuola Enologica di Alba in Alba, the most famous winery in Italy. The winery has also joined Biotipicità, a newly established association of producers in the Langhe region, and is working on environmental issues and sustainable farming methods. This producer has received high scores every year in many specialist magazines, including Gambero Rosso.
