25 years old. Neive village. 400m above sea level. Bordering the famous vineyard "Gallina" to the northeast. Chalk-limestone soil. Released only in good years. Alcoholic fermentation for 10-15 days. Aged 24 months in barrels (10% French oak large barrels, 90% 25-30 year old barrels). Aged in bottle for at least 6 months. The Pelissello family has deep roots in Neive, named after "Pelisselli", a small village in Barbaresco Neive. They were also one of the first producers in Neive to bottle and sell their own wine. The history of this small family-run winery began in 1921, when the previous generation, Mr. Giuvani, purchased the historic farm "Cassina Crosa". Before he bought it, it was so old that it was owned by the Conti family, an aristocratic family of Neive, and was treated like a treasure. It is still located in the heart of the best vineyards in Neive and is a place that other producers in the region often visit. Later, Mr. Giuvani's son Pasquale became the owner and the winery further innovated. Mr. Pasquale loved working in the vineyards and cellars so much that he started to focus on improving quality instead of mass-produced wines, which were very common at the time. Since then, the work of the winery has been a constant quest for quality improvement. In 1971, they released their own bottled Barbaresco, at a time when bulk sales were still common. After Mr. Pasquale passed away in 2007, his daughter Ornellaia became the owner and continues to make wines in the great traditions of the family. Since her childhood, Ms. Ornellaia has felt her father's careful work up close and has inherited the work of the winery. Therefore, she is still most particular about quality. Believing that great wine can only be made from good vineyards, she spends a lot of time on each and every grape vine, and on making sure that the vineyards are well-managed. She makes wine only from her own carefully cultivated grapes. Her goal is to "make our customers satisfied when they drink our wine." This may sound like a given, but she says this is the reason she has always worked. Since 2020, Ms. Ornellaia's son, Simone, who will be the future owner of the domain, has also been involved in winemaking at the Domaine in earnest. Until last year, Simone studied winemaking traditions and the latest oenology at La Scuola Enologica di Alba in Alba, the most famous winery in Italy. The winery has also joined Biotipicità, a newly established association of producers in the Langhe region, and is working on environmental issues and sustainable farming methods. This producer has received high scores every year in many specialist magazines, including Gambero Rosso.
