Aged 20 months in French barrels (87% new barrels). Staglin's flagship wine. Made from only carefully selected, fully ripe grapes. Vintage Information
2014 was another blessed year with warm temperatures and a record dry start to the season, with budbreak earlier than in 2013, which was earlier than normal. Rain in February allowed the vines to catch their breath, allowing them to flower and fruit, but the hot summer stressed the vines, resulting in high quality, small berry, compact size grapes. Harvest was normal, but the early budbreak allowed for ample hang time.
Tasting Comments
Fragrant dark red and black fruit with aromas of red fruits and flowers. Black raspberry and cassis flavors are complemented by nuances of forest floor, cigar box and graphite. The elegant, silky, refined tannins form an intricate structure and lead to a finish that is sure to age well.
