Sumam Pinot Noir is only produced in good years. The previous vintage was 2009. The 2019 vintage proves just how good it is. The grapes used are from the same plots as La Source, but only the best grapes harvested first are used. The winemaking team knows exactly how many bunches of grapes each vine produces on each plot. The grapes used in Sumam are selected as a result of this tireless research. "Evening Land" is a symbol of the perfect garden that continues to be sought. From the time of Greek mythology to the present day, Evening Land is synonymous with adventure and romance, which inevitably leads to the West Coast of America. Seven Springs Vineyards' 80 acres (32 ha) of vineyards in the Eola Amity Hills of Oregon's Willamette Valley are planted with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Gamay Noir. Evening Land owns this vineyard, which is known as one of the best vineyards in Oregon and has been selected as one of the top 10 vineyards in the United States by Food & Wine magazine. It is also a special vineyard that is described as "one of the best vineyards in Oregon, producing grapes of consistent quality every year" by Wine Advocate magazine. Seven Springs, located on an east-facing slope, was planted in 1983 and the soil is Oregon's typical volcanic red soil. The ratio of young and old vines is very well balanced, and a wide variety of grapes are harvested from the plots with various microclimates. We produce complete estate wines from our own vineyards at Seven Springs, which are cultivated biodynamically. When Evening Land was first established, it became known as the first overseas winemaking project for Dominique Lafon of Comtes Lafon, a great Burgundy Mursault producer and one of the top five white wine producers in the world. Currently, Raja Parr, a well-known entrepreneur who heads the popular winery Domaine de la Cote in Santa Rita Hills, California, and Sashi Moorman, a talented winemaker, are in charge of the management and brewing of Evening Land. Under their influence, the wines have become very close to European style, and it is no exaggeration to say that Evening Land is now the most notable winery in Oregon.
