``Treana'' is one of the best wines produced by the Hope family. It's the culmination of all the elements that influence winemaking: California's earth, sunshine, and cool sea breezes. The 2018 growing season was characterized by mild weather with normal rainfall for all but a few weeks. July was a very hot month, which delayed the ripening of the grapes. However, this allowed us to harvest wonderful grapes of ideal quality. The color is a beautiful deep wine red, with aromas of cassis, vanilla beans, rich blackberries, and baking spices (spices used in confectionery). Tannins and acidity combine to create a long finish. It will age gracefully for 10 to 15 years.

The Treana Red blend continues to be a great source of pride for the Hope Family. Known for its depth of character and balancing finesse, this wine possess enticing aromas of cassis, clove and vanilla bean. On the pallet, warming flavors of dark fruit, burnt sugar and baking spices mingle with a hint of leather. The wine finishes with full bodied tannins that delicately linger.

Vineyard Notes: 2019 was a challenging growing season. Above average rainfall persisted throughout the spring with the last rainfall occurring May 31st. These conditions kept the spring free of frost threats but relatively cool, leading to slow vine growth. The cooler weather also delayed fruit development. The summer months were somewhat erratic with short heat waves followed by cooler periods. These conditions helped the vines and clusters to somewhat catch up. Ultimately, the cooler weather persisted with only a few autumn heat spikes, leading to slower berry maturities and a later harvest. Mid-late October brought overnight freezes which required some harvest mitigation, but by early November harvest was complete.

Winemaker Notes: After harvest, vineyard lots were fermented individually in stainless-steel tanks for 14 to 20 days. Carefully managed pump overs and extended macerations enhanced the extraction of color and tannin. The varietals were aged separately for 16 months in French oak barrels, of which 25% were once used and 25% were twice used. The initial blend was assembled in spring of 2021 and barrel-aged an additional 3 months in 100% new French oak. The wine was racked only twice during its cellar life, with the final racking occurring just prior to bottling.
